Technology is an emerging trend. In this 21st century which happens to be a generation dominated by millennia’s helming the evolution of technological innovations, you cannot afford to be novice. A technological layman like myself can at best fit in as being tech savvy.
The 5G technology has been nearly a decade in making and if we take a retrospective glance on the emergence of the global pandemic, it was at the start of the year 2020 that several health theorists diagnosed the virus although there are rebutting assertions that corona virus had been in existence since 2019. A decade gap ought to bury any controversies on the relation between COVID 19 and the 5G technology. COVID 19 and 5G technology are both global phenomenons co-existing at the same time but it does not translate to the fact that they are related.
5G is the next development of mobile broadband that will eventually replace, or at least exist along with the 4G LTE connection. With 5G, there will be an exponential increase on the speed of downloads and uploads. Communication with wireless networks will be faster. From my understanding, it is safe to say the 5G network was invented to be a more reliable, efficient, user friendly and deliver a massive network capacity.
In simple terms, the 5G network bores no relation to corona virus. Despite all the conspiracy theories proffered by several intellectuals across various school of thought and spiritual fanatics, a simple yet thorough research on the invention of the 5G will reveal that these theories are all but wide speculations.
Most of these ideas draw on an established stream of confused concern about 5G technology and longstanding fears about new technologies. Since time immemorial, the advent of new technologies or innovations like the ATM card, Cell phone, Social security number and the likes are always received with sentimental views as such technologies or inventions are conceived as a plot by the Antichrist, a ploy to depopulate the earth and several other illogical sentiments. Right now, there are speculations by some sects that the 5G networks cause radiation, which, in turn, triggers the virus. Others float that reports of the novel coronavirus were actually a cover-up for the installation of 5G towers.
I think the 5G network further bears to connection to COVID 19 for these extraneous reasons; every person who has used any form of cellular technology knows that radiations can only spread computer virus not human viruses. Thus, any position with respect to radiations from corona virus damaging human health lacks basic human reasoning. In a country like Nigeria, there has been no recent report of a widespread installation of the 5G mast yet the virus is spreading. I would like to assume though not concede that there has been no 5G mast in Nigeria. The virus is equally spreading in countries without access to 5G, the frequencies from 5G can’t harm your body, and COVID-19 is caused by a contagious virus that is in no way related to electromagnetic waves from cellular technologies. Radiations (radio waves) and viruses aren’t transmitted in the same way. The novel coronavirus spreads from one person to another through “a sense of touch” when a sick person coughs, sneezes, or breathes. Several world bodies have established international guidelines and regulatory policies backing up this assertion. The news media on the international scenes like New York Times, CNN are equally trying in correcting these dangerous conspiracies which has been labeled as “dangerous nonsense” as the waves from 5G simply aren’t strong enough to weaken your immune system.
I would wholesomely advise the Nigerian government to bring in the 5G technology into the country. Our country needs to be at the top of our game when it comes to embracing progressive agendas. However, there are several concerns the government first needs to settle on the grounds of public policy. Nigeria is fair and square a religious state. A Nigerian Pastor as well as several Nigerian analysts, many of which possess international profiles happened to be one of the pioneer voices on a 5G conspiracy theory. This lead to Nigerians having a divided front on the 5G network. Some saw it having a negative impact while others like me think it’s best for Nigeria to embrace it. On the grounds of public policy, public good and public safety, the Nigerian government should address and pacify all public concerns about the 5G network.
Some while ago, amidst a growing global concern on its safety, the Nigerian government on Saturday denied it had approved the deployment of the fifth generation mobile network (5G) in the country but Nigeria cannot remain on this fears for too long, the Government needs to be issued a license for the fifth generation mobile network in Nigeria. To pacify the public into feeling safe with the installation of the 5G mast in the country, a team of experts, security agencies and other stakeholders can fully participate in a trial process of the network.
The 5G network if embraced in Nigeria would benefit us in terms of higher efficiency, greater productivity as every work or business revolves around the internet. It would also fast track internet banking and the reception of Nigerians towards receiving payment wirelessly.
In conclusion, technology is the new oil and if Nigerians have the slightest intent of moving from a third world country to a developed country, we had better jump on the technology wagon.
