The city of Akure quaked by a reverberating sound spreading to most parts of the city and to the neighbouring city. It has been reported that a truck carrying dynamite exploded thereby destroying churches and houses. The mysterious thing about this explosion is the crater it created. The explosion created a hole in the ground and divided the road.
A lot of speculations are making the rounds. One of which is the collision of an asteroid with the earth – a meteorite. Nevertheless, the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) notes that there was no loss of life in the accident, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m. last Saturday. NAN also notes that the severity of the blast had sliced the Akure-Owo expressway in two.
Undie Adie, the State Police Commissioner, told reporters at the scene of the incident that the truck was carrying dynamite to a quarry firm.
Adie, who believed the shipment had been properly escorted by Police Explosive Ordinance (EOD) staff, added that the vehicle had developed a fault and had exploded on the road. He added that “the truck was coming from the state of Lagos to the state of Edo; sadly, the vehicle developed a fault along the road and the driver noticed it.”
In addition, they had to try, from the description of the escort commander, to push it away from where the houses were.
“When they stopped and stepped out and saw smoke coming out of the truck, the driver’s attempt to keep it off was not possible and a fire broke out,” he said. The Commissioner said the police escort had to use regular technical drills to tackle the incident. Adie advised the residents of the area to stay away from the scene of the incident to prevent unnecessary accidents.
Brig .- Gen. Zakari Abubakar, Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, urged people to stay calm, saying the security agencies were at the top of the situation. Mr. Rotimi Adeleye, the FRSC State Commander, said that commanding officers had been deployed on the road to maintain order on the highway. He said there was an alternate path for motorists.
In the meantime, another school of thinking also holds that it’s a meteorite. Experts led by Adepelumi Adekunle, Professor of Geophysics and Earthquake Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, said that a meteor is what occurs when a meteoroid – a tiny piece of asteroid – crashes through the Earth’s atmosphere, producing a flash of light in the sky. Adepelumi Adekunle said the meteors struck the location from a “43-degree angle.”
However, Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of the state, told reporters that the blast occurred after the explosion of a truck carrying explosives to a quarry. “I have been told by the security chiefs that, in the early hours of Saturday, 28 March, a vehicle in a convoy carrying explosives to a storage facility in a neighboring state developed a fault while transiting Akure Owo Road about 2 km from Akure Airport,” the governor said.
But Adekunle said his team’s results indicate that the blast was triggered by natural causes, which contradicted the governor.
He added that there was no evidence of an exploded truck or explosives coming from the site, and that “alien rocks and odd metal items” had been found inside the crater.
His report read: “My research group carried out a thorough study of the site. A circular impact crater with a diameter of 21 m and a depth of 7.8 m was found indicating a natural occurrence.” Water was observed oozing out of the edges of the crater. Preliminary vibration, noise, seismicity, water analysis, radioactivity tests, rock and soil investigations were performed.
“Our results indicate that the impact of the blast was a 1 km radius of the crater site. No signs of fire or burning were found in the area.” There was no proof of radioactivity inside the crater or in the immediate vicinity.
Earlier in March, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that an asteroid would pass over the earth. This asteroid has been identified as large and potentially hazardous. When they circle the Sun, the NEOs [Near Earth Object] will occasionally approach the Earth.
“Note that astronomically, a ‘near’ passage can be very far away in human terms: millions or even tens of millions of kilometers.” There is an unclear fuss and confusion as to what it is. Another school of thought thinks it is a bomb blast.
Meanwhile, an eye witness to last Saturday’s blast, Mr. Richard Solomon, who was in the hospital, said the incident was like a night turning into a day. Speaking at UNIMEDTH, Akure, Solomon said that he and his motor boy had avoided death because they had been alerted by a mobile police officer who warned them of the danger ahead. I then parked the car after a mobile policeman told me to. We sat inside the car, and all of a sudden, the sound came, and we saw a ball of fire in the sky, white all over the place, and it was like daytime. “As we sat in the truck, Iron from nowhere shattered the glass of the vehicle and cut off my engine boy’s leg.”
The Ondo State Assembly had vowed that the government would provide relief packages to the victims of the explosion that shook Iluabo, a suburb of Akure. Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun, Speaker of the House, made this vow when he brought the other members of the House to the scene of the explosion on Saturday. Okay, that’s a relief.
My school of thought remains that Thanos is awake. Where are the Avengers, huh?
